Shelly Romero (she/her) is a book editor who is passionate about working with BIPOC creators and traditionally marginalized authors.

She is currently the Senior Editor at Chooseco and has previously worked at Scholastic and Cake Creative.

Shelly graduated from Stephens College with a bachelor’s degree in English and attended the 2017 NYU Summer Publishing Institute. She is a member of Latinx in Publishing and People of Color in Publishing, and has mentored for the latter organization as well as for Representation Matters Mentorship Program.

Previously, she has served as a planning committee member for the Bronx Book Festival and DVcon. In 2020, Shelly was named as a Publishers Weekly Star Watch Honoree, which “shines a light on innovative, talented professionals from all parts of the industry.”

Born and raised in Miami by Honduran parents, she now resides in New York City where is she is forever chasing the perfect café Cubano and pan tostado.

When not working, she is usually out and about in the city. But if she is finally back at home, you’ll most likely find her rewatching her favorite horror movies.
